Heavy Bikes Could Soon Be Allowed on Motorways

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is considering a framework that could once again allow heavy bikes, including 600cc and above, on Pakistan’s national motorways, this time under tougher safety and training conditions.

During the latest hearing, motorway officials told the court that no rider would be allowed on the motorway without first completing formal training.

For this purpose, dedicated centers are being set up in Islamabad and Sheikhupura, where riders will undergo registration, licensing, and mandatory training before being considered for motorway access.

Although the court has not issued a formal order yet, the proceedings indicate a possible move away from the blanket ban that currently keeps heavy bikes off the motorway network.

The IHC has asked for further meetings and consultations between the commission formed on the issue and motorway authorities to refine the proposed rules.

Until the court issues a clear directive, the ban on 600cc+ motorcycles on motorways remains in force, and riders will have to wait for an official decision on when, and under what conditions, they can legally return to the country’s high-speed corridors.
