Pakistan Deploys AI Scanners at Borders to Clear Containers Within Seconds

Pakistan has taken a major step toward modernising cross-border trade by installing advanced AI-based cargo scanning systems at two key border terminals with China and Iran, significantly improving security and clearance efficiency.

According to 24NewsHD, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has deployed state-of-the-art scanners at the Sost Dry Port on the Pakistan–China border and the Gabd Border Terminal on the Pakistan–Iran frontier.

The move aims to streamline commercial cargo movement while curbing misdeclaration and illicit trade.

The new scanners can inspect vehicles in as little as 22 seconds, a sharp improvement over conventional inspection methods.

Using artificial intelligence, the systems accurately identify cargo codes, analyse structural details of consignments, and digitally record scan data, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in customs operations.

Officials said the technology will reduce container waiting times, accelerate customs clearance, and minimise human intervention, allowing smoother movement of legally traded goods.

Analysts believe the initiative will strengthen trade along Pakistan’s major economic corridors and enhance regional connectivity as trade with China and Iran continues to expand.

NLC officials stated that the deployment reflects a broader push to modernise border infrastructure and align Pakistan’s trade logistics with international standards, reinforcing the country’s role as a key regional trade gateway.
