The Punjab government has approved the School Management Council (SMC) Policy 2024 in a major step to make the education system more effective and robust.
The policy was formally approved during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Under the cabinet’s decision, the SMC Policy 2024 will be implemented across Punjab, while the School Education Department will soon issue its official notification.
Officials said the new policy will bring greater transparency, uniformity, and efficiency at the school level by strengthening the administrative framework.
According to government sources, the policy introduces clear rules for financial and administrative oversight in schools, improving monitoring of fund utilisation, decision-making, and management processes.
This is expected to reduce irregularities and allow minor administrative decisions to be made at the school level, eliminating delays.
With the implementation of the policy, schools will be able to address infrastructure needs, cleanliness, furniture, and other essentials more promptly.
Clear assignment of responsibilities will also make performance evaluation more effective.
All government schools will now operate under a single, standardised policy, which authorities believe will lead to improved educational outcomes.
Officials added that better management and efficient use of resources will ease teachers’ administrative burden, allowing them to focus more on teaching and academic responsibilities.
