Police Encounters Rise Across Punjab

New data from the Punjab Police reveals a significant decline in police martyrdoms alongside a sharp increase in criminal deaths during encounters across the province this year.

According to official figures, the martyrdom ratio of police officers dropped by 110 per cent, while the number of criminals killed in encounters rose by 110 per cent compared to last year.

Encounters in 2025

So far this year, 2,564 police encounters have been reported across Punjab, including Lahore. During these operations:

  • 1,270 criminals were killed
  • 16 criminals were injured
  • 1,551 criminals were arrested
  • 19 police personnel were martyred
  • 165 police officials were injured

Comparison with Last Year

In contrast, last year saw 1,186 encounters, during which:

  • 544 criminals were killed
  • 781 were injured
  • 853 were arrested
  • 42 police personnel were martyred
  • 170 police officials were injured

Three-Year Overview

Over the past three years, Punjab has recorded 4,593 police encounters. In total:

  • 2,280 criminals were killed
  • 2,957 were injured
  • 3,194 were arrested
  • 78 police personnel were martyred
  • 485 police officials were injured

Crime Situation

Police sources say the data reflects improved operational effectiveness, noting that fewer officers are losing their lives while law enforcement actions against criminals have intensified. Officials added that the elimination of hardened criminals in encounters has contributed to a reduction in serious crimes across the province.

The Punjab Police maintain that intelligence-led operations and better tactical planning have played a key role in improving officer safety and curbing criminal activity.
