Rs. 9.28 Billion Approved for Repair of Roads in Karachi Industrial Areas

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved Rs. 9.282 billion for urgent road repairs and related infrastructure work in Karachi’s industrial areas.

The chief minister approved the funding during a meeting with representatives of major industrial associations, where officials reviewed ongoing issues and finalized a development plan for rehabilitating basic infrastructure across the city’s industrial zones.

Under the approved package, the government allocated Rs. 2 billion for the SITE Association of Trade and Industry, Rs. 700 million for both phases of the SITE Superhighway, Rs. 721.74 million for the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry, Rs. 860.55 million for the F.B. Area Association of Trade and Industry, Rs. 2 billion for the Landhi Association of Trade and Industry, Rs. 2 billion for the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, including the Pakistan Tanners Association, and Rs. 1 billion for the Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry.

Officials briefed the meeting on the first phase of the plan, which focuses on immediate repair and maintenance needs. Authorities said the Karachi commissioner led consultations to ensure fair and need-based allocations for each industrial zone.

The chief minister said the government will finance the scheme through the Infrastructure Development Cess collected by the Excise and Taxation Department. Industrial representatives urged the government to release funds through a grant-in-aid mechanism to ensure faster execution rather than routing the project through the Annual Development Programme.
