Preparations for Pakistan’s federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 have officially begun, with the Federal Board of Revenue inviting tax proposals for the upcoming budget.
According to the FBR, recommendations for amendments to customs laws are to be sought by February 10. In this regard, formal letters have been issued to the chief collectors and the director generals across the country.
The tax authority has directed all field formations to submit budget-related proposals. These submissions must clearly mention the name of the field formation, the proposed measures, justification for the suggested changes and the expected impact on revenue.
Officials said the objective is to gather practical input from field offices to help shape realistic and effective tax measures for the next fiscal year.
Meanwhile, a Tax Policy Office has been established within the Ministry of Finance to support the budget preparation process. The new office will play a central role in reviewing proposals and formulating tax policy for the 2026-27 budget.
The finance ministry said the preparation of the next budget will be carried out under the supervision of the Tax Policy Office to ensure better coordination, policy consistency and data-driven decision-making.
