Over 12,000 School Teacher Interns Reportedly Unpaid in Punjab

Around 12,000 temporarily appointed school teachers in Punjab have been reportedly left without salaries for the past two months after the School Education Department failed to finalize a payment mechanism.

According to City42 News, Punjab school teacher interns have not received their last two months’ pay. Officials have yet to decide whether salaries will be disbursed through banks or routed via school heads, causing delays across the board.

The teachers were recently granted an extension in their contracts across the province, but despite continuing their duties, their remuneration remains stuck due to procedural uncertainty within the department.

As a result, thousands of temporary teachers posted in government schools across Punjab are performing regular responsibilities without being paid, while the School Education Department has still not issued clear instructions on how and when their pending salaries will be released.
