Two Pakistani nationals have been executed in Makkah after being convicted of attempting to smuggle narcotics into Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the men tried to bring heroin and other drugs into the kingdom by concealing them in different parts of their bodies. They were arrested after authorities detected the contraband.
Officials said a court found them guilty of drug smuggling and handed down the death sentence. The verdict was upheld by the Supreme Court, after which a royal decree was issued to carry out the execution.
Both Pakistanis were executed in Makkah today, the ministry confirmed.
The Saudi Interior Ministry also issued a warning that anyone involved in similar drug-related activities would face severe punishment under the kingdom’s laws.
