Google is preparing to bring one of the Pixel 10 family’s exclusive software features to a wider Android audience. According to a new report, the feature known as Magic Cue will be introduced across Android smartphones under a new name: Contextual Suggestions.
Contextual Suggestions is designed to offer timely recommendations from apps and services based on a user’s routine activities and location patterns. Google describes it as a way to surface “helpful suggestions” that align with how and where a device is typically used.
For example, a music app may suggest a specific playlist when the user arrives at a gym if that playlist is frequently played during workouts. Similarly, if a user regularly casts sports games to a television on Saturdays, the phone may prompt a casting suggestion at the usual time.
The system stores device activity and location data in an encrypted environment on the phone. Within this space, on-device AI analyzes usage patterns and generates predictions about what actions may be useful at a given moment. Apps and services receive only the prediction results, not the raw data behind them.
According to Google, all data used by Contextual Suggestions is processed locally on the device within an encrypted space. The activity and location data used to generate predictions is not shared with Google or third-party apps and does not leave the device unless the user explicitly chooses to share it for another purpose.
Users can delete this stored data at any time, and by default, it is automatically removed after 60 days. While apps cannot access the underlying data, they can use the predictions generated by the on-device AI to deliver relevant suggestions.
Contextual Suggestions is currently appearing for a limited number of users running the latest beta version of Google Play Services. Even within the beta program, access is restricted, indicating that the feature is still undergoing testing.
When available, users can find the feature by navigating to Settings, then Google or Google services, followed by All services, and then Others.
