KP Considers $642 Million Modern Train Project

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to introduce modern train services on multiple railway routes across the province, including the proposed Kohat–Kharlachi rail link.

The decision was made during a meeting on railway affairs chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at the K-P House in Islamabad.
Officials briefed the meeting that the Kohat–Kharlachi project includes the construction of a 192-kilometer railway line, with an estimated cost of $642 million.

Authorities expect to complete the project within two years. The briefing confirmed that the feasibility study has already been completed, while land acquisition for the project is currently in progress.

The chief minister said the Kohat–Kharlachi rail service was necessary and stated that the project would improve passenger travel and support trade and commercial activity in the region.

The meeting also reviewed a proposal to operate a safari train on the 32-kilometer Jamrud–Landi Kotal railway track. The chief minister directed relevant departments to prepare detailed plans with defined timelines for all railway initiatives.

Participants also agreed to strengthen coordination between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways. The chief minister assured full cooperation with Pakistan Railways for the implementation of railway projects in the province.
