Pakistan has moved a step closer to launching 5G mobile services as the federal cabinet today approved the recommendations of the Spectrum Auction Advisory Committee for February 2026, official sources told ProPakistani on Wednesday.
The approval was granted during a special meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Sources said the cabinet endorsed the auction of the 600 MHz spectrum for 5G services, following clearance by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) a day earlier.
According to officials, the 5G spectrum auction is planned for February. Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima briefed the cabinet on the preparations for the auction and the roadmap for introducing 5G services in the country.
Sources said the Ministry of Information Technology will issue a formal policy directive for the 5G auction. Based on this directive, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will invite applications from telecom companies to participate in the bidding process.
