Shaheen Chowk Underpass Forces Universities to Postpone Exams

Examinations scheduled at major universities in Islamabad have been postponed following the closure of Shaheen Chowk due to ongoing construction work on the underpass, leaving students frustrated and uncertain about their academic calendars.

Students of Bahria University and Air University received SMS notifications from their institutions informing them that exams planned for December 27 and 28 have been deferred.

According to the messages, the decision was taken because of restricted access around Shaheen Chowk, with revised dates to be communicated later through the respective heads of departments.

While the notifications were sent directly to students, no public announcement has yet been made by the universities, adding to confusion among candidates. Many students have expressed anger over the sudden postponement, saying it has disrupted their preparation plans and could push back semester breaks.

The disruption comes as work on the Shaheen Chowk underpass enters its final phase. The project, located at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Khyaban-i-Iqbal, has caused prolonged traffic diversions in the area.

Earlier this week, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inspected the site and directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to complete the remaining work without further delay.

Officials have stated that most of the structural work is complete, with road carpeting and finishing still underway. The underpass, which is expected to be inaugurated next week, is aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion in one of Islamabad’s busiest corridors.
