The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the hiring of more than 10,000 contract primary school teachers under a new policy to address staff shortages in government schools across the province.
According to official details, teachers will be recruited strictly through the talent pool and appointed via Parent Teacher Councils (PTCs) under a prescribed mechanism.
In summer zone schools, teachers will be hired for five months, from January 16 to May 31, while in winter zone schools, appointments will be made for four months, from March 1 to June 30.
In settled districts, 2,910 teachers will be hired for boys’ schools and 2,935 teachers for girls’ schools, bringing the total in settled districts to 5,845.
District-wise hiring for boys’ schools includes: Abbottabad (202), Bannu (49), Battagram (97), Buner (20), Charsadda (241), Lower Chitral (19), Dera Ismail Khan (226), Lower Dir (78), Upper Dir (267), Hangu (3), Haripur (58), Karak (115), Kohat (34), Lower Kohistan (23), Upper Kohistan (16), Kolai Palas (2), Lakki Marwat (558), Malakand (66), Mansehra (351), Mardan (66), Nowshera (20), Shangla (46), Swabi (8), Swat (203), Tank (5), Torghar (34), and Upper Chitral (103).
For girls’ schools in settled districts, hiring includes: Abbottabad (120), Bannu (280), Battagram (146), Buner (17), Charsadda (137), Lower Chitral (22), Dera Ismail Khan (167), Lower Dir (118), Upper Dir (53), Hangu (95), Haripur (128), Karak (106), Kohat (71), Lower Kohistan (111), Upper Kohistan (28), Kolai Palas (12), Lakki Marwat (268), Mansehra (314), Mardan (68), Nowshera (44), Peshawar (138), Shangla (106), Swabi (45), Swat (179), Tank (74), Torghar (71), and Upper Chitral (17).
In the merged districts, 4,229 teachers will be hired. For boys’ schools, recruitment includes: Bajaur (11), Khyber (110), Kurram (25), North Waziristan (19), Orakzai (2), Bhittani subdivision Lakki Marwat (18), Darazinda subdivision Dera Ismail Khan (19), Darra Adam Khel subdivision Kohat (105), Hassan Khel subdivision Peshawar (69), and South Waziristan Upper (14).
For girls’ schools in merged districts, hiring includes: Bajaur (204), Khyber (597), Kurram (184), Mohmand (339), North Waziristan (780), Orakzai (401), Bhittani subdivision Lakki Marwat (10), Darazinda subdivision Dera Ismail Khan (35), Darra Adam Khel subdivision Kohat (59), Hassan Khel subdivision Peshawar (129), Jandola subdivision Tank (225), Wazir subdivision Bannu (446), South Waziristan Lower (131), and South Waziristan Upper (297).
Overall, the province will recruit 10,074 contract primary teachers under the new policy.
