Lahore will celebrate Basant 2026 under strict safety rules after Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza issued an official notification allowing conditional kite flying in the district.
According to the notification, Basant will be celebrated on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026, within the limits of Lahore. The Punjab government has allowed kite flying under strict terms and safety measures to ensure public protection.
The administration has activated an e-Biz app and online portal for the registration of kite and string manufacturers.
The sale of kite-flying material will be allowed from February 1 to February 8, 2026. Authorities have imposed a complete ban on the manufacturing and sale of spools (charkhis), while kite string will only be permitted in the form of “pana”.
DC Lahore stated that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against the use of nylon, plastic, or metal-coated strings. All manufacturers and sellers must complete digital registration to operate legally.
To prevent accidents, the administration has made it mandatory for motorcyclists to install safety wires on their bikes. Authorities have also fixed limits on the size of kites and guddis, warning that violations will invite strict action.
The Deputy Commissioner directed police and district officials to launch a crackdown against sellers of banned kite strings. SOPs have been issued for the district administration, police, kite-flying associations, and citizens.
Syed Musa Raza said that kite flying will only be allowed on February 6, 7, and 8, adding that Basant is a cultural festival of Lahore, and ensuring its safety is a shared responsibility.
He added that registered businesses may legally start operations from December 30 under the prescribed rules.
