2025 saw many ambitious and innovative technology releases, including some of the best smartphones we have seen in a while. But it also brought its fair share of weird products that made no sense.
Below is a list of the ten weirdest, least sensible, or downright funny tech products launched or widely discussed this year. Some of them are at least cute.
1. Apple iPhone Pocket
Apple released the iPhone Pocket, a textile phone holder/wearable accessory created with fashion brand Issey Miyake. Not only did it make little sense, but it was also ridiculously priced in typical Apple fashion at $150 for the short strap and $230 for the long strap.
Why buy a purse when you can have a weird-looking phone sock?
2. Mirumi Bag-Clipping Robot
Mirumi is a small furry robot that clips onto bags and reacts to people by turning its head in their direction. That’s it. That’s all it does. It only looks at you if you are passing by. Since it is a robot instead of an animal pet, some people passing you by may be creeped out instead.
3. Electric Salt Spoon
This peculiar kitchen gadget uses electrical pulses to make food taste saltier without added sodium. While novel, it is mostly just an over-engineered solution to a taste preference rather than a genuinely useful product.
4. Swippitt “Toaster” Phone Charger
A gadget shaped like a toaster that swaps your phone’s battery pack in seconds drew attention for its odd appearance and questionable practicality, especially given the cost relative to traditional fast chargers. The charger itself costs $450, while the Link Cases you need for swappable batteries cost $120 each, making it more expensive than many smartphones.
5. AI Pet Robots
Robot companions that wander your home and “express emotions” were showcased at IFA 2025. While definitely a strange thing to have roaming around your house, at least this product can be seen as cute for those with too much money to spare.
6. AI Spice Dispenser
An AI-powered kitchen gadget that functions like a spice “Keurig” came out quite strange for trying to automate seasoning, a task most home cooks find simple without tech assistance. With AI already taking over all of our tasks, we definitely don’t need it in the kitchen.
7. World’s First Electric Rollerblades
Electric rollerblades with onboard batteries and speed controls appeared at CES 2025 as an odd blend of transport and sport tech. While innovative, many questioned their practicality for everyday use, especially since they cost a lot more than your regular rollerblades at €650.
8. Stringless Smart Guitar
A “stringless” portable guitar concept attempted to reimagine the musical instrument, but its very nature blurred the line between instrument and novelty, leaving many musicians confused about its real use.
9. Wonder Blocks & Petal
A modular system designed to attract and monitor bugs via an app was widely cited as a gadget looking for a problem, turning insect observation into a high-tech (and arguably unnecessary) hobby tool.
10. FuFu “Coffee Cooling” Robot
A tiny robotic cat that attaches to mugs and cools drinks by blowing air made headlines for its quirky function, a humorous twist on a kitchen gadget that many saw as solving a trivial “problem.” But hey, at least it’s quite cute.
