Karachi to Repair Over 550 Rain-Damaged Roads

The government has completed a survey of roads damaged by recent heavy rains in the metropolitan city. Under the plan, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will repair 106 roads, while the provincial government will rehabilitate another 453 roads in various towns.

The Sindh government has allocated Rs25 billion for the repair and rehabilitation of damaged roads across the city. Authorities will carry out the work under the World Bank–funded Local Government Department’s Competitive and Livable City of Karachi (CLICK) project.

A spokesperson for Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi said a recent meeting reviewed progress on the road repair initiative. Officials said work will begin shortly, with district-wise plans finalized for implementation.

According to the spokesperson, the repair program includes 138 roads in District East, 50 in District Central, 27 in District South, 15 in Korangi, 93 in Malir, and 27 in District Kemari.

Officials also reviewed the condition of traffic signals along major corridors, including I.I. Chundrigar Road and Mauripur Road. The meeting decided to prepare plans for the beautification of both roads to improve their appearance and functionality.

As part of traffic infrastructure improvements, the Transport Department will upgrade 45 existing traffic signals and install 31 new signals across the city. Authorities said these measures aim to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety in Karachi.
