MediaTek has added a new processor to its mid-range portfolio with the launch of the Dimensity 7100, which now appears on the company’s official website. The chipset is built on TSMC’s 6nm process and targets affordable 5G smartphones.
CPU and GPU Configuration
The Dimensity 7100 uses an eight-core CPU design with four Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz. While the core layout closely resembles earlier Dimensity 7000-series chips, MediaTek says the new processor delivers faster app launches and smoother multitasking compared to older mid-range offerings.
Graphics duties are handled by the Mali-G610 GPU, which MediaTek claims is up to 8% faster than the GPU used in the Dimensity 7050.
Power Efficiency
Efficiency is a key focus of the Dimensity 7100. According to MediaTek, the chip is about 5 percent more power-efficient during app usage, up to 16 percent more efficient during multimedia playback, and up to 23 percent more efficient when using mobile data.
The integrated 3GPP Release 16 5G modem supports download speeds of up to 3.3Gbps and uses MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology to reduce power consumption during extended 5G sessions.
Memory, Connectivity, and Display Support
The chipset supports LPDDR5 memory with speeds of up to 5500Mbps and UFS 3.1 storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4.
On the display side, the Dimensity 7100 supports 10-bit color depth and HDR video playback, aligning with current expectations for mid-range devices.
Camera and Charging
For imaging, the processor supports camera sensors up to 200 megapixels. It includes HDR imaging, multi-frame noise reduction, and hardware-accelerated face detection. MediaTek says portrait detection and autofocus performance have been improved compared to previous generations.
The Dimensity 7100 also supports 45W fast charging and the UFCS universal charging protocol. A new power management system is designed to operate at lower voltages, which MediaTek says can help extend battery life.
Android devices powered by MediaTek Dimensity 7100 should be coming out very soon. We can expect to see it in Chinese devices before international brands.
