Rawalpindi to Receive 50% Less Water from Rawal Dam for 11 Days

Water supply from Rawal Dam to Rawalpindi will drop by up to 50 percent from January 1 to January 11, 2026, due to cleaning and repair work on the dam’s canal system.

Officials took the decision during a joint meeting of the Small Dam Organisation and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi. Under the plan, authorities will carry out repair and desilting work on the main canal from January 1 to January 3.

Maintenance on the right and left bank canals will continue from January 3 to January 11. During this period, WASA will receive a reduced supply of raw water from Rawal Dam.

The cut is expected to affect areas including Committee Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Old Fort, Mohanpura, Bagh Sardaran, Dhok Mangtal, and Arya Mohalla. WASA officials said water supply from Khanpur Dam and tube wells will continue as normal in these areas.

They added that alternative arrangements are in place, including increased use of tube wells and water bowsers. Mini filtration plants across the city will also remain operational.

Managing Director WASA Rawalpindi Muhammad Saleem Ashraf directed staff to ensure uninterrupted supply from alternative sources and ordered immediate repair of tube wells. He urged residents to use water carefully and limit consumption to essential needs until normal supply resumes after January 11.
