As the New Year begins, the Faisalabad district and divisional administration has laid out its development record for 2025 and announced key initiatives planned for the coming months, including the inauguration of an Rs. 81 billion metro bus project soon.
Addressing journalists, Faisalabad Division Commissioner and Administrator Municipal Corporation Raja Jehangir Anwar said the administration faced serious challenges during the year, with June floods emerging as the most pressing issue.
He said flooding affected nearly 550 villages across Faisalabad Division, with Chiniot and Jhang suffering the heaviest losses. He added that Pir Mahal, Kamalia, and Tandlianwala also sustained damage.
On security matters, Anwar said the administration responded to threats linked to a proscribed organization through coordinated action involving police, civil administration, and intelligence agencies. He said authorities contained the situation without major incidents.
He said the repatriation of Afghan nationals also remained a major task during the year. Authorities temporarily housed around 2,000 Afghan nationals at holding centers in Faisalabad before repatriating them under government policy.
Anwar said Faisalabad also witnessed the return of international cricket after a 17-year gap. He said the city hosted Pakistan and South Africa matches over a 12-day period, adding that authorities implemented security and civic arrangements successfully and reported no untoward incidents.
On agriculture, he said the division exceeded its wheat sowing target of 1.83 million acres, completing sowing on more than 1.9 million acres.
