KP to Get Three New Motorways

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi chaired an important meeting to review progress on the province’s flagship road sector projects, including Swat Motorway Phase II, the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, and the Dir Motorway.

During the meeting, officials briefed the chief minister on the status of the projects, and the government took several key decisions. The chief minister directed the relevant departments to start construction on Swat Motorway Phase-II as soon as possible, describing it as a flagship project of the provincial government.

He instructed authorities to resolve all technical and administrative issues without delay. Swat Motorway Phase-II will extend 80 kilometers from Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. The project includes nine interchanges and seven bridges at various locations over the Swat River.

The chief minister also indicated that the government will soon lay the foundation stone of the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway. The 365-kilometer-long motorway will include 19 interchanges and two tunnels. The government will complete both the Peshawar–Dera Ismail Khan Motorway and Swat Motorway Phase II under a public-private partnership model.

For the Dir Motorway, the meeting decided in principle that the provincial government will construct the project entirely using provincial resources.

The chief minister directed departments to quickly complete all legal and administrative requirements to begin practical work, stating that the government is using available resources effectively and transparently to ensure development and prosperity in remote areas of the province.

  • More waste of tax payer funds. Wow this is pathetic

    All that cultivated land cleared
    All the trees cut down
    More moisture taken from air

More high road taxes. Why can’t you guys just fix existing roads. We don’t need more roads

We need more Greenery or you’ll be breathing like lahore

    • Yes we need greenery but we need roads too. Peshawar-DI Khan motorway not only shorten the distance safe the time but will cutoff unnecessary traffic from major cities like kohat, Karak bannu. We can plant indigenous trees alongside the road too.

    • F you dude…. You guys already have tons of roads/motorways/expressways in Punjab while in KPK we got nothing. We’re more than happy to pay the toll taxes if it means every corner of the province being connected.

  • Good projects. However, the green cover/local tree varieties must be preserved or added on both sides of motorway, farmlands must be preserved to maximum extent and adequate passageways for crossing of local traffic on foot and on vehicles must be provided to prevent inconvenience to locals.

  • KP Government to at least manage the existing GT road and Indus Highway from Peshawar to DI Khan which is under construction for last 20 years and still billion of funds utilized for this never ending process…. No traffic system and full of illegal parkings and encroachments…the existing control and maintenance of roads is more important than to start new projects and end corruption…
