Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) staged a protest against the Punjab government’s refusal to grant helmet exemptions to individuals who wear the traditional Imamah Sharif, City42 reported.
A large number of PST leaders and workers participated in the demonstration.
According to details, the protest was organized in response to the decision not to exempt turban wearers from helmet requirements.
Senior PST leaders—including Ghulam Qadir Naqshbandi, Allama Fayaz Raza, Mian Khalil, Basharat Jalali, Maulana Shafqat Jameel, Muhammad Saeed Qadri, Muhammad Ehsan Qadri, Mian Qaisar, Amjad Hussain Wattoo, Muhammad Shaukat Jani, Muhammad Shams Qadri, Mehr Akmal Naqshbandi, and Muhammad Zahid Golra—joined the protest alongside a large number of supporters.
Protesters also chanted slogans in favor of their demands.
PST leader Sardar Muhammad Tahir Dogar called on the Punjab government to exempt individuals wearing Imamah Sharif from mandatory helmet rules.
He added that Pakistan Sunni Tehreek is committed not only to protecting the rights of Sunni Muslims but also the legitimate, constitutional, and legal rights of all minority groups.
It is worth noting here that recently, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz exempted the Sikh community from the mandatory helmet rule. The announcement came during a Christmas event. However, the verbal announcement is yet to be reflected through an official notification.
