The University of Lahore was shut down on Monday after a female student was seriously injured when she jumped from the second floor of a campus building, officials said.
Police identified the student as 21-year-old Fatima Hussain, a D-Pharm student and a resident of Narang Mandi, Sheikhupura. She sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital by Nawab Town police.
According to police officials, both of her legs were fractured, but her condition is now out of danger. Investigators said further details would emerge once she regains full consciousness. Her mobile phone has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
University sources said Fatima had enrolled two and a half to three months ago and had a 90 per cent attendance record, ruling out attendance-related issues.
Following the incident, the University of Lahore administration announced the immediate closure of the campus until further notice, shifting all classes to online mode. Officials said the decision was taken to review and strengthen security arrangements.
The incident comes weeks after a fifth-semester pharmacy student died on December 20, 2025, after jumping from the fourth floor of the same university. The student, an outstation resident from Kamalia, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Police had said he was under mental stress due to domestic issues.
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents.
