December 2025 was the seventh warmest December in Pakistan over the past 65 years, according to a report released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
The report said above-normal day and night temperatures were recorded across the country during the month. Weather conditions remained unusually warm in Sindh and Balochistan, while below-average rainfall was recorded in Karachi and several other regions.
Meteorologists attributed the rise in temperatures to climate change, noting that warming trends have intensified over the past decades.
Experts warned that climate change has already had a severe impact on Pakistan, with the country experiencing devastating floods, prolonged heatwaves, and recurring droughts in recent years.
Cities such as Karachi have faced repeated heat emergencies, while rural areas have suffered from water scarcity and crop losses.
Despite contributing minimally to global greenhouse gas emissions, Pakistan remains among the most climate-vulnerable countries, with rising temperatures disrupting ecosystems, damaging infrastructure, displacing communities, and threatening food and water security.
