Islamabad’s Constitution Avenue to Finally Install Digital Screens

The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has launched a digitisation initiative for Constitution Avenue that is expected to save Rs. 60-70 million, replacing costly temporary displays used during official and diplomatic events.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed with Allied Bank Limited, the project will install digital display screens along Constitution Avenue in Islamabad, from Globe Chowk to D Chowk and the Pakistan Secretariat.

The digital screens will be used for public awareness messages, official announcements, national events, VVIP visits, and limited branding.

The move is intended to provide a permanent alternative to Panaflex banners, which have historically been installed and removed repeatedly for high-level visits at high cost.

In the past, expenditures on Panaflex and plastic-based materials during visits of foreign dignitaries and heads of state resulted in recurring spending. The digitisation project is expected not only to cut these costs but also to support environmental protection by eliminating single-use display materials.

The initiative has been launched in line with directives of the Capital Development Authority chairman and recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Constitution Avenue frequently hosts diplomatic engagements and international events.

Officials said the project will be implemented at no financial cost to MCI, with installation of the digital screens expected to be completed within 45 days.

The MoU was signed by Dr Inam Fatima, Chief Officer MCI, and Syed Nabeel Ahmed, Group Head Marketing at Allied Bank Limited. Dr Inam Fatima said the initiative reflects a shift toward smart urban governance, environmentally responsible policies, and prudent financial management, ensuring more effective use of public resources.

  • I hate the wastage due to those penaflex hung up every other month during events. But permanent digital displays that will not be always on are an eyesore. Especially on the constitution avenue which should have a more dignified look with all the state buildings and not a commercial feel to it. But than that’s what our state has also been reduced to.

  • Constitution is not sustained simply by naming a road and decorative measures . The only way to respect n grace the Constitution is the compliance of all institutions of the state without any indulgence n crossing the domains of the all concerned.
