Pakistan’s national men’s futsal team manager, Faizan Sameer, has declined a rare opportunity to work with Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, choosing instead to prioritize his responsibilities with the national side.
Sameer was invited to take part in a special professional program at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium from January 22 to 26 under Visa Card’s global campaign. The initiative included on-field and off-field exposure alongside one of football’s most successful coaches.
However, the dates of the visit clashed with the SAFF Futsal Championship, where Pakistan is scheduled to compete. Sources say Sameer opted to stay with the national team, citing his commitment to preparations and participation in the regional tournament.
The decision highlights a strong stance on national duty, as Sameer chose to represent Pakistan at a key competition despite being offered a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience at one of Europe’s top clubs.
No official statement has been issued yet, but officials close to the matter suggest the national team’s campaign took precedence over personal career development.
Manchester City, meanwhile, was held to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad against Chelsea in early January, a result that saw City drop crucial points in the title race and left manager Pep Guardiola addressing an injury-plagued squad ahead of further league and cup fixtures.
