A nationwide survey by Gallup Pakistan has highlighted low public awareness of vaping and other new nicotine products, alongside growing concerns about their impact on youth.
The survey, conducted between September 12 and 23, 2025, gathered responses from 1,153 adults aged 18 and above across the country and was released on January 5, 2026.
According to the findings, only 17 percent of respondents said they were aware of electronic cigarettes or vaping devices, while awareness of chewing tobacco and related nicotine products stood at 20 percent.
Awareness levels were higher among urban residents and wealthier groups. Despite limited awareness, the survey estimates that more than 1.2 million people in Pakistan currently use vaping devices.
Among respondents familiar with vaping, 60 percent said neither they nor anyone they know uses such products, while a small share reported personal or indirect use.
Most respondents viewed vaping as harmful or as harmful as conventional cigarettes. A majority of those aware of vaping believed second-hand vapor can negatively affect others.
The survey found that respondents overwhelmingly identified young people as the group most affected by smoking, vaping, and chewing tobacco. Fashion trends and experimentation emerged as the most commonly cited reasons behind vaping’s appeal among youth.
Respondents also expressed concern over flavored chewing tobacco products, with many believing they attract younger users.
