With the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team auction just days away, ex-Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has stirred excitement once again with a fresh idea for a new PSL team.
In a post on social media platform X, he floated the name “Pindi Boys” as a fitting identity for a potential new franchise based in Rawalpindi, asking fans for their thoughts on the concept.
He highlighted that with a new international-standard stadium being developed in Islamabad, neighboring Rawalpindi could support its own dedicated team playing at the existing Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The timing of Tareen’s comments aligns with progress on the construction of the new Islamabad Cricket Stadium, planned near Sector D-12 in the capital’s Margalla foothills. Once completed, this venue is expected to host major fixtures, potentially serving as Islamabad United’s official home ground and offering modern facilities for international and domestic matches.
PSL fans believe this setup could pave the way for an exciting “Twin-City derby” between Islamabad United and the proposed Rawalpindi franchise. Drawing parallels to famous rivalries like the Milan derby in European football, such matchups could become marquee events in the PSL calendar.
Earlier, Ali Tareen shared a fan-made concept logo for the Sialkot Stallions, reigniting hopes of bringing back one of Pakistan’s most celebrated T20 brands as another new franchise if cities like Sialkot secure PSL bids. While Tareen clarified that nothing is finalized, his post sparked widespread discussion among supporters eagerly awaiting the PSL 11 expansion details.
