The Vehari district administration has ordered the registration of all pet dogs in the district to address the rising number of dog bite incidents and to hold pet owners accountable for any injuries caused by their animals.
The directive was issued by Deputy Commissioner Khalid Javed Goraya, following a rise in dog bite cases across the district. Several people, including children and elderly citizens, have been injured, and in a recent incident, an elderly woman lost her life.
According to the handout, an elderly woman, Naziran Bibi, was mauled to death, while a minor boy, Zohaib, sustained serious injuries after being attacked by packs of stray dogs in Mailsi tehsil.
Under the new orders, all pet dogs must be registered, and complete details of their owners will be recorded. Pet owners will also be responsible for ensuring the vaccination of their dogs.
The deputy commissioner warned that if a person is bitten by a pet dog, the owner will be booked under criminal charges by the concerned police authorities.
Meanwhile, the Mailsi tehsil administration has claimed that more than 100 stray dogs were put down during a three-day campaign. The operation was carried out jointly by the district council, local government, and Suthra Punjab teams.
