Dog bite incidents in Karachi have reached alarming levels, with 850 people reportedly bitten in just the first five days of 2026.
According to hospital data, Indus Hospital Korangi recorded 300 new dog bite cases in five days, while Civil and Jinnah Hospitals reported over 300 additional cases.
Dr. Aftab Goher, in charge of the Dog Bite Clinic, stated that most cases were reported from Korangi, Hub Chowki, Baldia, Landhi, and Gadap.
A 41-year-old patient at Indus Hospital required amputation of a finger due to infection following a dog bite.
Dr. Goher warned that rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. He urged citizens to seek immediate medical attention and get vaccinated in the event of a dog bite.
This surge highlights the urgent need for awareness, vaccination, and preventive measures to contain the spread of rabies in Karachi.
