Lahore’s first-ever floating restaurant is no longer just a headline idea, it’s now taking shape on the ground, with construction underway near Jallo Mor on a canal stretch being redesigned to host a full waterfront dining and recreation experience.
Officials behind the project say the plan is to turn the area into a modern leisure zone where visitors can enjoy food, scenery, and entertainment in one place, right on the water.
At the center of the project is a ship-style floating restaurant, planned as a multi-storey structure. The idea is to create a new kind of dining venue for the city, one that offers canal views, open-air vibes, and a “destination” feel rather than a standard roadside restaurant.
To prepare the site, heavy machinery has been deployed, and canal water has been temporarily stopped so excavation and structural groundwork can be completed smoothly.
Because the restaurant will sit on water, the canal itself is being modified for safety and stability. The plan includes:
These upgrades are meant to ensure the floating facility and its supporting infrastructure can operate without risk.
The concept goes beyond food. Authorities plan to upgrade the surrounding canal-side area with modern lighting, aimed at making the location attractive at night. Nearby green spaces are expected to be turned into family picnic areas, positioning the site as an outing spot rather than a single-stop venue.
Entertainment is also being built into the plan. Officials say visitors can expect cultural performances, live music, and evening activities, taking place on the floating restaurant and around the canal-side area.
Authorities have indicated the project is expected to be completed within the year, though timelines may depend on construction progress, safety requirements, and final operational approvals.
