Pakistan Customs has foiled an arms smuggling attempt at the Torkham border, recovering more than 21,000 rounds of submachine gun and rifle ammunition during routine scrutiny of a concealed consignment.
The key development is that the ammunition was detected through swift scanning and physical examination, leading to its immediate seizure at Torkham, officials said.
Authorities described the recovery as a serious threat to public safety and national security. An FIR has been registered, and investigations are underway in coordination with law enforcement agencies.
The enforcement action was carried out under the supervision of the Federal Board of Revenue, whose spokesperson said strict action would continue against smuggling and illicit trade.
Officials said Pakistan Customs remains committed to strengthening border controls and disrupting illegal supply chains through enhanced monitoring, scanning technology, and coordinated enforcement efforts.
