The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has decided to stop supplying water through tankers and hydrants in Karachi.
While chairing a meeting on Tuesday, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab directed the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation to develop an alternative system for water supply through pipelines. He also ordered the gradual closure of all seven hydrants operating in the city.
The mayor said that water would be supplied to citizens through pipeline connections and instructed officials to make arrangements for doorstep delivery through proper lines.
He stated that the city currently earns around Rs. 300 million per month from hydrants but confirmed that hydrant contracts expired last year and would not be renewed.
The mayor said tanker-based water supply would be discontinued. He further directed that, until the pipeline-based system is fully implemented, water should be supplied to different areas on alternate days.
