Three Teams Wants Player Auction for PSL 11

Three Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) franchises have reportedly urged the league’s management to consider switching to an auction model for the tournament’s upcoming 11th edition.

Sources said Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Quetta Gladiators are in favor of holding an auction for PSL 11 and have already shared their position with the PSL administration. The same sources added that the franchises have also raised several operational questions as planning begins for the next season.

Among the key points, the franchises have reportedly asked for a clearer policy on direct signings, including how the mechanism will work and how many players teams will be allowed to bring in through that route. They have also sought clarification on who will finalize player categories and have requested that franchises be consulted before the categories are locked in.

Sources said discussions have now started within franchise circles on whether the league should continue with the existing draft format or move towards an auction.

The three franchises backing an auction believe the draft system gives an advantage to teams with earlier picks, allowing them to secure stronger talent more easily. They also argue that players they plan to target often end up being taken by other teams, which they believe an auction could address by creating a more competitive bidding process.

Not all franchises are on the same page, however. Sources said Lahore Qalandars prefer retaining the draft system. Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi have not formally shared their stance so far.

Sources familiar with the matter added that franchises are still waiting for an official response from PSL management, but no reply has been received yet.
