Punjab Police Issues Driving License to Citizen After Changing His Gender

The Punjab Traffic Police’s Driving License Branch in Multan mistakenly issued a driving license to a male citizen with a woman’s photograph printed on it.

The affected individual of this bizarre case of negligence, Asghar Sawal, said he applied for his license in 2025 after completing the required training and successfully clearing the driving test. He paid Rs. 7,000 for the entire process and waited for the document to arrive.

However, when the license was finally delivered, he was left stunned by what he saw: a woman’s photo had been printed instead of his own.

Asghar, who currently lives in Karachi for work, said travelling back to Multan to sort out the issue is not easy. Despite this, he contacted the relevant office to report the mistake and request a correction.

To his surprise, officials at the Multan Driving License Branch allegedly refused to accept responsibility for the error. Instead, they told him he would have to pay an additional Rs. 650 to have the record amended.

Adding to his frustration, he was informed that the correction process could take up to four months, even though the mistake was clearly made by the department itself.

“I was shocked,” Asghar said. “It was their mistake, but they’re asking me to pay and wait for months just to fix it.”

The incident has raised serious concerns about data handling, record management, and accountability within the Punjab Traffic Police’s licensing system. A driving licence is a crucial identity document, and such errors can create unnecessary legal and administrative complications, especially during traffic checks or official verifications.

Asghar has now appealed to the Inspector General of Punjab Police to take notice of the matter and order an immediate correction without charging him any additional fee.

The case has also triggered wider public concern, with many questioning the reliability of the system and wondering how many similar errors might be going unnoticed.
