Following the federal government’s decision to lift the ban on new domestic gas connections, Sui Northern Gas Company Limited has received an unprecedented surge in applications, according to a report by ARY News.
Officials at Sui Northern Gas Company Limited said the company began receiving applications immediately after the restriction was removed, creating operational pressure due to the sheer volume of requests.
Government authorities had ended the years-long ban on new household gas connections last year, a move announced by the federal petroleum minister at the time.
SNGPL officials said the company has received around 400,000 applications under the fast-track category alone. In addition, nearly 300,000 consumers applied through the normal merit-based process.
Officials acknowledged that processing such a large number of applications simultaneously has posed a significant challenge for the utility.
Under the fast-track scheme, the company has so far installed about 29,000 new gas connections. Authorities also processed approximately 36,000 conversion cases, issuing updated prepaid demand notices to consumers. According to Sui Gas officials, the utility has provided a total of 64,000 new RLNG-based connections since the ban was lifted.
