Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain announced on Thursday that the government aims to provide overseas employment opportunities to 800,000 Pakistanis in 2026, compared to around 740,000 workers sent abroad last year.
Addressing a meeting with members of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), the minister highlighted the growing demand for Pakistani manpower in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and other regions.
He said Pakistan is launching soft-skills training programs in collaboration with Korea and Japan to enhance the global employability of its workforce.
The minister also announced that the minimum age for women seeking overseas employment has been reduced from 35 to 25 years, opening new opportunities for female workers.
Sharing key statistics, Chaudhry Salik Hussain said that a Pakistani worker employed in Korea currently remits an average of $1,800 per month, reflecting the economic benefits of skilled overseas employment.
The minister stated that the government is carrying out comprehensive reforms to resolve issues faced by overseas Pakistanis, promote skills development, and create better job opportunities abroad.
He also directed the Korangi office of the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) to coordinate with KATI before issuing recovery notices, emphasizing that all matters should be settled through dialogue and facilitation.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain revealed that EOBI’s fund size had increased from Rs500 billion to Rs650 billion within one-and-a-half years due to improved governance and transparency.
He added that the institution was focusing on better investment returns, digitization, and resolution of property-related litigation through mediation.
He further said that EOBI’s Complaint Management System is being integrated with the Prime Minister’s Portal, Wafaqi Mohtasib, and other departments, while help desks have been established in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi to facilitate employers, employees, and pensioners.
The minister reiterated that key institutions like EOBI are being digitalized to support industrialists and create a more business-friendly environment.
