Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has resumed bowling in the nets as part of his rehabilitation from a knee injury, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Thursday.
In a video shared by the PCB, the 25-year-old left-arm pacer was seen bowling with full rhythm and pace during a net session at the National Cricket Academy.
He also took part in batting drills, boosting his chances of returning to the national men’s team for the upcoming three-match home T20I series against Australia.
The series will take place ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Shaheen sustained the knee injury last month while playing for Brisbane Heat in a Big Bash League (BBL) match against Adelaide Strikers.
The incident occurred after the 14th over of the Strikers’ run chase, when Shaheen, visibly in pain, limped off the field while pointing to his right knee. He was later ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.
Following the injury, Shaheen Afridi shared a message on social media platform X, thanking the franchise and fans for their support during his debut BBL season. He also confirmed that the PCB had recalled him for rehabilitation.
“Due to an unexpected injury, I have been called back by the PCB and will have to take a rehab. Hopefully, I will be back on the field soon,” he said. “Meanwhile, I will be cheering for the amazing team.”
Shaheen’s stint with Brisbane Heat in the ongoing BBL proved underwhelming, as he managed only two wickets at an economy rate of 11.19 across four appearances.
