The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has cut its licensing processing time from years to days after introducing major reforms.
DRAP Chief Executive Officer Dr Ubaidullah said reforms within the authority have brought a fundamental change, particularly through the digitalization of the licensing system. He said processes that previously took several years are now being completed within days.
He explained that the new digital approach has significantly accelerated licensing and approval procedures, sharply reducing timelines and removing long-standing delays.
The DRAP chief thanked the government for its support and said it played a key role in the authority’s recent progress. He reaffirmed DRAP’s commitment to further improving regulatory processes and public services.
Dr Ubaidullah said the authority is now better positioned to ensure wider access to quality medicines. He added that approval timelines have improved substantially, addressing delays that were previously a major concern.
He said these changes have strengthened DRAP’s overall performance and helped ensure the timely availability of essential medicines for the public.
On local vaccine production, Dr Ubaidullah said the quality of vaccine components in Pakistan is improving, and efforts are underway to further enhance vaccine availability.
He added that, with support from provincial and international governments, Pakistan is moving closer to developing its capacity for local vaccine manufacturing. He said the goal of these partnerships is to stabilize vaccine supply chains and increase self-reliance in the healthcare sector.
