Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima has said that the auction of 5G spectrum is planned during the month of Ramadan, with efforts underway to complete the process by the end of February.
She made these remarks while speaking to the media at Parliament House, adding that the government aims to move quickly after completing the required regulatory preparations.
The minister said that following the 5G spectrum auction, the quality of 3G and 4G services is expected to improve within three to four months. She added that the government is also working towards launching 5G services in major cities within six months after the auction process is completed.
Shaza Fatima said that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is currently holding consultations with stakeholders on the Information Memorandum, particularly on the quality of service and rollout conditions. She noted that telecom operators have been given three weeks to review the proposed framework and submit their feedback.
She said that after the completion of stakeholder consultations, the Information Memorandum for the 5G spectrum auction will be finalized in the first week of February. The minister added that telecom companies are finalizing their preparations, after which the country will be ready to move forward with the 5G spectrum auction.
