The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi has fixed new customs values for the import of several smartphone brands. However, this only applies to older and used mobile phones coming in from abroad.
This means that the total PTA tax you have to pay for these phones is now effectively much less. Many popular brands have been affected, including Apple, Samsung, Google, and OnePlus.
Here are the new PTA tax values for the iPhone 15 series in Pakistan.
The iPhone 15 launched for $799 in the US, but a used/refurbished model can be grabbed for somewhere between $300-$400 at the moment. We will settle for an even $350 to keep it fair, which converts to about Rs. 97,800 based on the current USD exchange rate.
Calculating taxes based on this value at the new customs rates brings the total PTA tax up to Rs. 34,101 on CNIC, and Rs. 31,640 on a passport. That means the total price of a base iPhone 15 can be expected at around Rs. 130,000 or higher.
We can expect the price tag of a used iPhone 15 Plus to hang around $370, which converts to Rs. 103,465 at the moment. The PTA tax based on this value should amount to Rs. 46,068 on a CNIC and Rs. 40,448 on a passport. The total retail value should then be around Rs. 145,000 or more.
Applying the same logic to the iPhone 15 Pro, valued at around $400, the PTA taxes on this phone should be Rs. 47,580 on CNIC and Rs. 41,960 on a passport, bringing the total retail value to around Rs. 155,00 or more.
Finally, an iPhone 15 Pro Max should cost you a total of Rs. 175,000, with PTA taxes valued at Rs. 50,604 on CNICs and Rs. 44,984 on passports.
