Google Search Gets a New Customization Option on Mobile

Google continues to evolve its Search experience as it adds more tools and features beyond the traditionally minimal interface. The latest change introduces a new option that allows users to add color to the Google Search page.

The feature, called “Color your Search,” was first spotted by 9to5Google and appears to be rolling out gradually to mobile devices.

Subtle Visual Changes

The Color Your Search option offers ten color choices. The colors are muted but distinct, and selecting one changes the color of the top section of the Google Search page. The rest of the interface remains unchanged.

According to 9to5Google, the feature is currently limited to larger-screen mobile devices. It has been observed on tablets and foldable phones, but does not yet appear to be available on laptops or desktop computers.

Where to Find the Feature

Users who have access to the feature can find the color palette option in Google Search by opening a browser and looking to the left side of the screen, next to the Search bar. Availability appears to depend on device type and rollout status.

Potential for Further Customization

While the current change is minor, it signals the possibility of expanded customization in the future. One potential direction could be automatic color syncing with device themes.

Google has already explored dynamic theming through Android and its Material You design language, where interface colors adapt to wallpapers and system settings. That approach has generally been well received.

Search Remains Largely Unchanged

Despite these updates, Google Search remains relatively simple compared with other search engines and has changed little over the past two decades. The service continues to prioritize clarity and ease of use, even as new features such as AI Mode and interface refinements are introduced.

Google has not commented on whether Color Your Search will expand to more devices or gain additional customization options.
