The government is considering converting the National Job Portal (NJP) into an artificial intelligence-driven recruitment platform as part of efforts to modernize hiring and improve employment services nationwide.
According to sources, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has issued directions to the National Information Technology Board (NITB) to introduce artificial intelligence into the portal. NITB has already started working on the proposed changes.
Under the plan, AI technology would be used to match job seekers with suitable opportunities based on their skills, qualifications, and experience. The system is also expected to help public sector organizations streamline the shortlisting process.
Officials said the proposed AI-enabled National Job Portal could generate labor market intelligence to support policymaking. This would allow authorities to identify workforce gaps, sector-wise demand, and emerging employment trends across the country.
The government is expected to place emphasis on data protection, transparency, and human oversight to ensure fairness in recruitment and to prevent algorithmic bias.
According to an NITB document, the National Job Portal currently hosts 2.1 million registered professional CVs. A total of 205 ministries, divisions, and departments are registered on the platform, while around 33,800 job advertisements and recruitment-related events have so far been published through the portal.
The National Job Portal was launched in September 2020 under the federal government’s “Digital Transformation of Pakistan” initiative. Developed and maintained by NITB, the portal serves as a centralized and automated system connecting job seekers with verified public sector employment opportunities. It aims to ensure transparency and merit-based recruitment by requiring federal ministries and departments to advertise vacancies through a secure platform.
