Punjab Introduces New Rule for Parks During Basant

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has banned kite flying in public parks and greenbelts during the three-day Basant festival, starting February 6, as the Lahore administration steps up digital monitoring to enforce compliance.

PHA Managing Director Raja Mansoor Ahmad said the move aims to protect trees and park infrastructure from potential damage during the festival.

He noted that the event is expected to attract large crowds from across Punjab, other provinces, and abroad. With the public holiday on February 5 (Youm-i-Kashmir), the city anticipates increased footfall in parks and green spaces from February 4 evening onward.

“The parks will remain open, but kite flying will not be allowed,” Ahmad said, adding that PHA enforcement teams have been placed on high alert.

An official PHA notification directed all zonal directors to strictly enforce the ban. The authority warned that any violation will be treated as unacceptable, and any resulting damage or incidents will hold the responsible director accountable.
