Redmi Turbo 5 Max Could Be the Most Aggressive Mid-Range Phone Yet

Redmi has officially confirmed that the Redmi Turbo 5 series will debut in China on Jan. 29. The lineup will include two models, the Redmi Turbo 5 and the Redmi Turbo 5 Max.

Lu Weibing, President of Xiaomi Group and General Manager of the Redmi brand, shared the announcement in a Weibo post, outlining Redmi’s broader strategy for the Turbo lineup and positioning it as a key mid-range performance series.

Turbo series positioning and strategy

According to Lu Weibing, the Turbo series is designed to bridge the gap between mainstream and flagship performance. He said Redmi is relying on the Turbo lineup to compete in the highly contested $360 price segment, even as component costs continue to rise across the industry.

He added that the Turbo brand is meant to maintain Redmi’s value-focused approach without compromising on performance, targeting users who prioritize speed, stability, and long-term usability.

Weibing also pointed to the success of earlier Turbo models, including the Turbo Pro variants launched last year. He said their strong early sales helped change user perception around performance-focused phones in this category and created a foundation for the Turbo 5 generation.

Highlights and hardware focus

The centerpiece of the announcement is the Redmi Turbo 5 Max, which adopts a more aggressive hardware approach than the standard model. Weibing confirmed that the Turbo 5 Max will debut with the Dimensity 9500s chipset, marking the first time the Turbo series uses a flagship-grade Dimensity 9000-class processor.

Redmi shared performance figures suggesting the Turbo 5 Max is tuned to challenge smartphones priced above $575 segment.

The Turbo 5 Max is also set to feature a 9,000mAh battery paired with Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS-level power management. Weibing said real-world endurance could exceed that of some 10,000mAh competitors, despite the smaller rated capacity. Redmi is also highlighting premium build quality, refined design, improved haptics, and full water resistance as part of a near-flagship experience.

Display sizes, chips, and charging

Alongside the announcement, Redmi released official images of the Turbo 5 in white and the Turbo 5 Max in orange.

The standard Redmi Turbo 5 will feature a 6.59-inch display and run on the Dimensity 8500 chipset. The Turbo 5 Max will have a larger 6.83-inch screen. Both models are expected to include 9,000mAh batteries and support 100W fast charging.
