Scammers Hijack Assistant Commissioner’s WhatsApp, Use Account to Seek Money

The WhatsApp account of Assistant Commissioner Hajira, Azad Kashmir, Waleed Anwar, was hacked after fraudsters contacted him through a fake phone call while posing as representatives of a courier service.

After gaining access to his account, the hacker began sending messages to people in Waleed Anwar’s contact list, asking them for money.

Waleed Anwar later confirmed through his official social media platforms that his WhatsApp account had been compromised. He warned the public not to respond to any messages sent from his number requesting financial assistance and urged citizens not to send money under any circumstances.

According to details shared by the local administration, scammers commonly impersonate courier company staff and contact individuals under the pretext of delivering a parcel or important document. During the call, victims are asked to share a verification code or one-time password (OTP) sent to their mobile phones.

Once the OTP is shared, hackers gain full access to the victim’s WhatsApp account and use it to contact others, often to seek money or carry out further fraud.

Officials have advised the public never to share OTPs or verification codes with anyone, stressing that legitimate courier companies do not request such information. Citizens have also been urged to verify information through official helplines, enable two-step verification on WhatsApp, and ignore messages received from compromised accounts to avoid financial loss.

  • Really sad news. These scams are increasing because many people install apps or trust links manokpula.com without proper verification. Similar issues have happened with unofficial or modified apps where users later faced account or data problems. Never share OTPs and always enable two-step verification to stay safe.
