Pakistan Faces Surge of Online Blackmail and Private Image Leaks

Cyber harassment, online blackmail, and the unauthorized sharing of personal images are posing a growing risk to internet users in Pakistan, prompting the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to issue a public advisory urging citizens to take immediate action and not remain silent.

According to the advisory, such crimes include persistent online abuse, threats, blackmail using immoral or sensitive content, and the circulation of private images or videos without consent. The NCCIA warned that these activities can cause serious harm to victims and stressed that they are punishable offences under Pakistan’s cybercrime laws.

The agency said it will take strict legal action against individuals involved in cyber harassment and online blackmail. It also reassured victims that the law provides protection and that offenders will be dealt with under the relevant legal framework.

To support investigations, the NCCIA advised victims to preserve all available evidence, including chat records, screenshots, and digital files, as these are critical for legal proceedings. Citizens were also instructed to block the accused individuals on digital platforms, but to avoid deleting any data that could serve as proof.

The NCCIA urged the public to report cybercrime cases immediately through official channels. Complaints can be filed via the agency’s helpline at 1799 or through its online complaint portal at complaint.nccia.gov.pk. The agency emphasized that timely reporting can help ensure swift action and bring perpetrators to justice.
