Balochistan Govt Decides to Abolish Food Department

The Balochistan government is moving ahead with another administrative overhaul, with provincial authorities deciding to abolish the Food Department and replace it with a newly structured Commodity Management Department.

Balochistan Food Minister Noor Muhammad Domki, speaking to Geo News, said the proposal will be placed before the provincial cabinet in its upcoming meeting for formal approval. Under the new setup, the government plans to establish four directorates within the Commodity Management Department.

Domki said the revamped department will be responsible for overseeing the management of essential goods, monitoring supply, and helping regulate pricing. He added that the new structure will also focus on action against hoarding and steps to ensure food quality standards are enforced.

As part of the restructuring, the minister said staffing will be cut, with sanctioned posts expected to drop from 1,370 to 974.

The move comes a day after the provincial government gave approval to discontinue the Religious Affairs Department, signaling a broader push toward streamlining departments and reducing administrative burden.
