The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has allotted 8.33 acres of land at Shakarparian, Islamabad, to the Department of Archaeology and Museums for the establishment of the Islamabad Museum, and the process of taking possession from CDA is currently underway.
This was shared with the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Heritage and Culture during its meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting was held in the Constitution Room of the National Assembly Secretariat and was chaired by MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar.
During the meeting, the Committee recommended that the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives allocate and release funds to the National Heritage and Culture Division for the construction of the National Museum of Pakistan in the Federal Budget for 2026–27.
The Committee also emphasized the importance of timely financial support to move the project forward and ensure the development of a national-level museum facility in the federal capital.
During the meeting, the committee also considered the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The panel unanimously approved all proposed amendments and recommended that the bill, as introduced, be passed by the National Assembly.
