UAE Introduces New Requirement for Remote Working Visa

The UAE has officially opened applications for its Remote Working Visa, allowing foreign professionals to live in the country while working for overseas employers. The visa grants a one-year stay and remains renewable as long as eligibility requirements are met.

A major advantage of the program is that applicants do not need a local sponsor or a UAE-based job. Remote workers must be employed by a company outside the UAE and provide proof of ongoing employment.

Key Rule Change for 2026

From January 27, 2026, applicants must submit bank statements covering the last six months instead of three.

This effectively raises the minimum employment duration to six months, as salary deposits are used to verify income stability.

Salary and Documentation Requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum salary threshold set by the UAE authorities. Proof of consistent income through bank statements is mandatory.

In addition, applicants must hold valid UAE health insurance and submit an official letter from their employer confirming approval for remote work from the UAE.

Application Process and Fees

Applications can be submitted online from inside or outside the UAE. In Abu Dhabi, accredited typing centers also process applications.

The government fee is approximately $81, excluding medical tests and Emirates ID costs. Processing typically takes five to seven working days.

Family Sponsorship Allowed

Remote Working Visa holders can sponsor residence permits for immediate family members, including spouses, children, and parents, subject to standard residency rules.

Why the UAE Is Promoting Remote Work

The visa allows professionals to work legally without entering the local job market. The UAE benefits from long-term residents who spend locally while earning income abroad.

The initiative builds on Dubai’s Virtual Working Program, launched in 2020, and reflects a global trend adopted by countries such as Estonia, Barbados, and Cyprus.

Legal Reminder

Working remotely without the correct visa can lead to fines, tax complications, or immigration penalties. The UAE Remote Working Visa provides a clear legal framework to avoid such risks.

With updated requirements taking effect in 2026, prospective applicants should prepare documents early. The UAE Remote Working Visa remains an attractive option for professionals seeking a legal, flexible lifestyle in a global hub.
