The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Thursday approved a $115 daily allowance per player for the national hockey team ahead of its departure for the FIH Pro League.
Speaking to the media, PSB Director General Muhammad Yasir Pirzada said the allowance was approved in line with the government-sanctioned budget and would cover Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming FIH Pro League matches.
He said the finance department had been directed to release the payments in advance to ensure players face no inconvenience during their international assignment.
Despite financial constraints, Pirzada said the PSB managed to arrange the funds by reallocating savings from various budget heads to facilitate the team’s foreign tour and ensure smooth arrangements for the players.
Pakistan hockey team captain Ammad Butt welcomed the decision and thanked the PSB director general for personally addressing the players concerns. He said earlier discussions on multiple issues had resulted in positive outcomes.
Butt added that the revised allowance rate approved under the current government budget was reasonable. “It is not bad at all. More importantly, the daily allowance issue has been settled,” he said.
Pakistan will play Australia on February 10, Germany on February 11, face Australia again on February 13, and take on Germany on February 14 in the second round of the FIH Pro League.
